The Starboard Foil Freeride Starlite Carbon (2025 model) has been a top seller for years. This freeride foilboard and has been developed for the recreational wind foiler. Due to its compact dimensions and high volume, this board flies very quickly and allows you to wind foil relaxed. This board is one of the easiest boards to be bought.

With a small wind force four, you can already wind foil with the Foil Freeride. Half wind, upwind and downwind, no problem. The new model has been further optimized in terms of shape for even faster foiling. In addition, the board has become shorter, making the board feel even more playful and lighter.

The Starlite carbon version is very popular as Starlite is particularly strong, so damage from crashes is much smaller. To keep the board as light as possible, the bottom is made of carbon. A very strong board, with a lot of volume, especially in the nose of the board. The boards are only 2.08 meters long. That takes some getting used to tacking. To the volume (also in the nose) it is not in any case.

Our experience with the Foil Freeride

Our experience with this board is that it foils very relaxed. Starboard itself indicates that you can use sails up to 8.5 for 130 liters and 9.5 m2 for 160 liters respectively. Our experience is that a 1 m2 less than specified is the max.

The board has several rows of foot strap plugs, making it easy to adjust the character of the board. If you put the foot straps out, the board will get some more freerace properties (you can then foil upwind more easily). If you put the foot straps more inwards, you can cruise half wind more relaxed.

What wind foil?

Do you want to go freeracing? Then the Starboard UCS Freerace is the best choice. This gives the board a bit more of the racing characteristics and is easier to wind up and downwind and is also considerably faster due to the wind foil.

Do you want to cruise back and forth in a relaxed way? Go for the Starboard SuperFlyer or Starboard UCS Freeride. The 160-liter volume variant is the most popular board. With 160 liters, you have a bit more volume to get going quickly and stand more comfortably due to the extra width.
