Description

Digital rake meter. You can use this tool to measure the angle of the mast / fuselage in relation to the bottom of your board. This tool is easy to use and you can program 4 profiles.

Effect of the angle of the foil

You can assume that during wind foiling the fuselage goes completely horizontally through the water. By tilting the mast of the foil forwards or backwards, you can influence the angle of the board in relation to the fuselage;

  1. Enlarging lift, by tilting the mast backwards. This increases the angle (measured in front of the mast), so that the board is slightly up during wind foiling. As a result, the air flow under the board increases, so that the board is lifted up by the ‘sailing wind’
  2. Reduce lift, by tilting the mast forward. This makes the angle smaller (measured in front of the mast), so that the board is slightly lowered during wind foiling. As a result, the airflow at the top of the board becomes smaller, so that the board is pushed down the ‘sailing wind’.

The Starboard carbon foils have a standard positive rake (angle) of about 1.2 degrees. The aluminum masts of Starboard have a rake of can about 0 degrees as standard. The Starboard foils with a carbon mast therefore give more lift as standard than with an aluminum mast.
